Siempre es doloroso darnos cuenta de la fragilidad humana y sentir que golpes como el que hemos recibido esta semana respecto de la muerte de Francisco Martinez nos dejan impactados y especialmente a sus familiares y amigos con un dolor muy intenso.

He leido los comentarios de algunos de sus amigos y compañeros y creo que son ellos quien pueden dar mayor testimonio y describir a Pancho en plenitud.

En su ultima presentación en mi asignatura habló de un gimnasta que a pesar de las dificultades logra superar sus limitaciones y vuelve nuevamente a luchar. A pesar de lo poco que lo conocí, demostró un lado espiritual que poco conocía y se identificaba con la persona que el quería ser.

HOW TO MAKE A GOOD ORAL PRESENTATION

Sooner or later, we all are called upon to get up in front of a class and speak. The following tips are designed to make public speaking less stressful.

- Be prepared. Know your subject. If possible, make up cards with notes or key phrases to refer to during your speech. Do not put the entire speech on the cards and read it word for word. You will look stiff, sound uninteresting and bore your audience.

- Use an Effective Introduction: avoid weak introductions such as apologies.

- If you can choose the topic you are to speak on yourself, opt for something you enjoy . Show your passion for the subject.

- Sound spontaneous, conversational, enthusiastic- use key phrases in your notes so you don't have to read.

- Use Body Language Effectively: relaxed gestures, eye contact; don't play with a pen or pointer and don't block visual aids.

- Practice. Do several run-throughs of your talk. Gather any props you will use, such as images or charts. You might even get a classmate or a friend to observe your rehearsal and give you constructive feedback.

- Stage fright (panico escenico ). Once you begin your talk and warm to your subject, the stage fright usually goes away.

These tips can help assure that giving a speech or a presentation will be as pleasant for you as it is for your audience. Good luck!

Gerry came to Chile first time in 2004 ( 2 weeks) and in 2005 all the first semester. I found this video in Youtube and it is about Cockney accent , especifically about Cockney rhyming slangs

This is what I understood and then ...¿¿¿¿¿¿¿??????

"A lot of people have asked if I can do a Cockney accent , so I'm keeping with a fake language theme and some of my videos I thought I do a cockney accent with some fake cockney rhyming slang ... "

The term Cockney refers to working-class inhabitants of London, particularly east London, and the slang used by these people. Here is an example of a Rhyming slang which consists of replacing words with short phrases which include a word which rhymes with the original one (and sometimes removing the rhyming part). For instance, the term "boat race" (or just "boat") might be used to refer to a person's "face", "plates of meat" (or just "plates") would mean "feet", and "bees and honey" (or just "bees") would mean "money".

The origins of rhyming slang are disputed. It remains a matter of speculation as to whether it was a linguistic accident or whether it was developed intentionally to confuse non-locals. If deliberate, it might have simply been used to maintain a sense of community; or to be used in the marketplace for vendors to talk amongst themselves without customers knowing what they were saying; or it may have been used by criminals to confuse the police and tax collectors.

I had lunch today at our local cafeteria and for $ 1000 , I got a very small portion of a mixed salad, rice and meat, jelly , a tiny cup of Coke and piece of bread. It wasn´t too much for me, so I had to buy "extra food"; a Super 8 and a mokashino. I wonder if a lunch like this is enough for a student who has to stay here all day long. The lunch in the photograph is not the one I had today.

IMPROVING ENGLISH SPELLING

Having chosen English as the preferred language in the EEC, the European Parliament has commissioned a feasibility study in ways of improving efficiency in communications between Government departments. European officials have often pointed out that English spelling is unnecessarily difficult - for example, cough, plough, rough, through and thorough.

What is clearly needed is a phased programme of changes to iron out these anomalies. The programme would, of course, be administered by a committee staff at top level by participating nations.

In the first year, for example, the committee would suggest using 's' instead of the soft 'c'. Sertainly, sivil servants in all sities would resieve this news with joy. Then the hard 'c' could be replaced by 'k' sinse both letters are pronounsed alike. Not only would this klear up konfusion in the minds of klerikal workers, but typewriters kould be made with one less letter.

There would be growing enthusiasm when in the sekond year, it kould be announsed that the troublesome 'ph' would henseforth be written 'f'. This would make words like 'fotograf' twenty per sent shorter in print.

In the third year, publik akseptanse of the new spelling kan be expekted to reash the stage where more komplikated shanges are possible. Governments would enkourage the removal of double letters whish have always been a deterent to akurate speling.

We would al agre that the horible mes of silent 'e's in the languag is disgrasful. Therefor we kould drop thes and kontinu to read and writ as though nothing had hapend. By this tim it would be four years sins the skem began and peopl would be reseptive to steps sutsh as replasing 'th' by 'z'. Perhaps zen ze funktion of 'w' kould be taken on by 'v', vitsh is, after al, half a 'w'. Shortly after zis, ze unesesary 'o kould be dropd from words kontaining 'ou'. Similar arguments vud of kors be aplid to ozer kombinations of leters. Kontinuing zis proses yer after yer, ve vud eventuli hav a reli sensibl riten styl.
